Freedom to Choose | Pastor Jon Neitzell
We stand at a crossroads in our understanding of salvation, where the question isn't just what we believe, but whether we truly grasp the freedom God has given us to choose. This message confronts one of Christianity's most debated theological frameworks: do we have genuine free will, or has God predetermined every aspect of our salvation? Drawing from Joshua 24:15 where Israel is commanded to 'choose this day whom you will serve,' we discover that choice has always been central to God's relationship with humanity. The sermon walks us through the five points of Arminianism, revealing that Christ died for all people universally, not just a select few. Second Peter 3:9 powerfully declares that God is 'not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.' This isn't about diminishing God's power but magnifying His love. Even for those who would reject Him, Jesus still died. The most sobering truth comes from Hebrews 6:4-6, which warns about falling away, yet offers hope: as long as we're breathing and desire to return, we haven't gone too far. This message liberates us from fatalistic thinking and places the responsibility and privilege of choice squarely in our hands, reminding us that every day we get to choose whom we will serve.
